Visit to the Chichester Planetarium

Posted on July 12, 2024July 12, 2024 By Bob No Comments on Visit to the Chichester Planetarium

For the summer visit on July 10, members of the Chichester Local History Society enjoyed a tour of the new reception area nearing completion at the Planetarium and were then given a tour of the starlit sky from the North to the South Pole by Dr John Mason.

The expansion and improvement to the Sir Patrick Moore Building at the South Downs Planetarium includes the demolition of the existing foyer and exhibition and the removal of a couple of internal walls.

There will be a new extension to the North-west of the existing building for a shop and café and a fire exit and wall to the North-east. Underfloor heating will be fitted under a raised floor and a new access ramp and stairs to the building.

Dr Mason describes the new entrance area and the suspended model of the moon and later one of Mars which will be important elements in the new displays.

The new facilities will be open to the public at the end of July. For further information ring 01243 774400 or email sdownsplanet@proton.me
