  1. In the article on Queen Victoria, it say that the Queen and Prince Albert raced through Chichester without stopping. That is not quite true. There is a excellent article in the Illustrated London News on 5 December 1846 which describes how on their way to Arundel the Royal party stopped in Chichester to change horses. “While the horses were being changed the chief authorities of the town, the Mayor and Corporation, the Bishop of Chichester, the Dean and a large number of the Clergy, attended to pay their respects to her Majesty and the Prince, by whom they were most graciously received. All the while the cheering was loud and hearty, and the Royal party seemed much pleased with their reception.” They then drove on past the Market Cross where a band was stationed who “played with more enthusiasm than taste while the Royal party passed”!
